COOMERA POLICE DISTRICT - KEEPING OUR COMMUNITY SAFE

The Coomera Police District has now been in existence for over 12mths and already we have achieved some significant milestones, in conjunction with the community, of a number of fronts.

Traffic Crash reduction:
Our goal has been to protect life and reduce the number of traffic crashes on our roads. Police have prioritised targeted traffic patrols and enforcement around known traffic crash zones using the most up to date information available. This has resulted in the number of fatalities dropping by 66%.

However it is a sad reality that no matter how active we are, we cannot prevent reckless acts by some people. A fatality in the making was observed just recently by police when a motorist was changing a flat tyre in a dangerous position on the edge of the fast lane of the Pacific Hwy in Nerang. The motorist was sitting on the road in the fast lane working on his tyre. Police had to intervene and got the motorist to move his vehicle as far right as possible before continuing with the repair.

Crime:
More proactive patrols have been made in and around licensed premises that we believe has helped in the reduction of the number of reported assaults. This has led to a projected decrease in assaults by 13.6% compared with the State projected decrease of 4.9%

Other decreases in reported crime have also occurred in relation to sexual offences with a projected decrease of 17.2% compared with the State projected decrease of 4.6%

Armed robbery offences are also down with a projected decrease of 18.9 % compared with the State projected decrease of 1.1%

Unlawful entry of dwellings (burglaries) are also down with a projected decrease of 4.7%. With this news home owners should not be complacent, and ensure that you are vigilant in maintaining your home security

There has been a recent spike in burglary offences being committed. The good work by local police and our CIB has resulted in a prison escapee being arrested and charged for a number of those burglaries.

To keep our crime rate heading in the right direction we need the maintain the cooperation with the wider community in following our crime prevention tips. We need to be vigilant in keeping on the look out for and to notify police of offences being committed and/or suspicious behaviour. A number of offences have been solved from the assistance we have received from members of the public.

We have a large area to police and to be an effective police service we need your assistance in keeping our community safe.
