Crime Prevention Month – October

Safe Homes - Safe Streets - Safe Places - Safe Queensland

During October the Queensland Police Service is encouraging everyone to make Crime Prevention a priority.
Crime Prevention Month is aimed at promoting initiatives that help make our communities safer places to live, work and visit by engaging and involving members of the community.

Acting Senior Sergeant Holly James said: “Safety affects all aspects of our lives - in our home, on our streets, in public places, and throughout Queensland - and everyone is encouraged to become involved in activities in their local area. We know that crime prevention is most effective when everyone - you, me, communities, governments and police - work together. By actively participating in Crime Prevention Month you can contribute to making your home and local community a safer place."

Throughout the Gold Coast a range of crime prevention activities will take place, e.g., talks on Home Security and ID Theft to wide-ranging groups; Security Audits; Displays at Robina Town Centre, Pacific Pines, Southport Library; talks at educational organisations; Crime Stoppers display for Multicultural Day at Evandale; Crime Stoppers display at Worongary; letterbox drops; PCYC quiz; children’s colouring competition, etc. For full details of daily events please refer to the Calendar of Events on the website.

Residents can become involved by taking action and organising an activity to promote crime prevention in their community. These do not have to be elaborate or time consuming and there are resources available from the QPS website.
