Alan Heuss was sitting in his running BMW in Columbus, Ohio, USA on Wednesday evening when an armed man opened a passenger door and threatened him with a gun.
Heuss said, "Some young man came up and opened the passenger door and stuck a gun in my face and told me to get out." The thieves made off with his car, his wallet, and his cell phone.
While Heuss reported the car theft to Police, one of his friends came up with a plan. As Heuss said, "He said 'I'm going to text message these guys, I'm going to blow some smoke their way. He said. 'I'm going to tell them I've got a bunch of hot chicks, as if I'm texting you, and that we've got some drugs, too.'
"So, brain trusts that they were, the thieves fell for it, and texted back their location. Rather than the women and drugs they were expecting, the thieves were greeted with a police raid.
It only took seven hours to bring the thieves down, according to the report. Not only that, the carjackers are suspected in a series of car thefts, so SMS brought down some 'serial' carjackers.
