Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch's meeting and AGM happened this evening - as usual this was a very informative and interesting event.
Our speaker was Declan Mackle, CEO of NuCrush Group who talked about the quarry's operations at the Oxenford plant and about their Good Neighbour Community Program that has seen them pour over a quarter of a million dollars into our community in the last 20 years. Local schools, sporting clubs and local charities have all benefited in many ways. Declan's presentation was fascinating in that it also showed a video of one of the quarry's blasts. We have all heard and felt the blasts - and to see what actually happens at the quarry when the charges are detonated was very interesting. There were many questions from the floor for Declan from members of the community who appreciated and enjoyed being able to discover more about NuCrush's operations in our neighbourhood.
Our State Member for Albert, MP Mark Boothman also attended and brought us up to date with recent happenings. The best news he brought is that twenty new officers now operate from Coomera Station - the Rapid Reaction Patrol Unit. He also talked about the works at Exit 54 behind on scheduled despite rain that did delay some of the operations on site.
Cr William Owen Jones (Division 2) spoke about the new indoor sports centre on Beatty Road - a legacy 'item' which is in place and ready for the Commonwealth Games and that will remain as a state of the art (and extensive) centre thereafter. Other issues discussed included the Light Rail Stage 2 to / from Helensvale and Griffiths University as well as the Movie Worls DA application for the 770 space car park at 12 Michigan Dr (with access on Kopps Rd).
Police Liaison Officer Sr Sgt Andrew Lake tabled and talked through the crime statistics for the area covered by Oxenford Neighbourhood Watch for the last quarter that contained 25 offences. Sr Sgt Andrew Lake spoke of scams that are 'doing the rounds' and the new Police Link App which he encouraged those present to download.
You are all welcome to attend - no need to RSVP - just come along and join us. Every meeting is followed by free drinks and nibbles and you're welcome to stay behind to chat with your state, council and Police reps as well as your fellow neighbours.
