An engine immobiliser is an electronic device that interrupts the power supply to two or more systems required to start a vehicle’s engine. It may be fitted at the time of manufacture or after purchase. A vehicle fitted with an immobiliser will not start unless the correct electronic signal is provided by the ignition key and transponder. The signal to de-activate the system changes constantly, making it virtually impossible to crack.

Immobilisers became mandatory equipment on all new passenger vehicles sold in Australia from July 2001.

The Standard was developed by industry experts, ensuring that the immobiliser cannot be easily overcome by thieves and will not affect the safe operation of the vehicle.
