Policelink provides the QPS with the opportunity to introduce the national non-urgent police number and enhance service delivery of the QPS through providing additional ways to contact police.
Policelink will provide community members with increased non-urgent reporting options through being able to call Policelink 24/7 or telephone or attend their local station directly for non-urgent assistance.
Through Policelink community members will be able contact the centre for a variety of matters such as the reporting of select, minor property offences and general non-urgent enquiries.
For example, if a community member chooses to report their stolen wheelie bin or garden hose via Policelink instead of an officer attending the scene, this will directly enhance community safety through time being reinvested into other operational priorities.
Importantly though, Policelink will provide an additional contact point and is not replacing the current methods of contacting Queensland Police but simply further enhancing our high level of service delivery.
Policelink will receive calls from community and QPS members requesting non-urgent assistance and incorporate functions currently performed by the QPS Headquarters Switch, the Police Assistance Centre (an internal police crime reporting and data entry function) and Crime Stoppers Unit.
From mid-2010, Policelink will manage contacts and enquiries associated with:
131 444 (national police non-urgent phone number)
non-urgent police enquiries
select property crime reporting
Crime Stoppers calls on 1800 333 000
Police Assistance Centre functions
child safety notifications
recording crime and incident information from police
special event and incident numbers as required
QPS support for disaster management
client service reports on QPS members
online reporting of selected crimes and incidents, initially for industry groups.
