Gold Coast City Council is seeking your assistance to deter graffiti vandalism and improve visual amenity by taking part in the city’s first Graffiti Awareness Day, to be held on Wednesday 13 October 2010 during Crime Prevention Month.
Graffiti removal costs Council approximately $1.6 million per annum and has additional economic and social costs for the wider community. It can lower property values, make people feel unsafe, reduce business patronage and encourage other types of crime. The most effective way to prevent further graffiti is to clean it up quickly.
Gold Coast City Council together with Queensland Police Service, would like to encourage Neighbourhood Watch members to support the Graffiti Awareness Day by encouraging community assistance in addressing graffiti.
Please.....
· Report graffiti on Council, Energex or private property to Council’s Graffiti Hotline on telephone 5581 7998 or email graffiti@goldcoast.qld.gov.au
· Remove graffiti damage from your own property, using left over paint or by picking up one of Council’s free graffiti removal kits (available from all Customer Service Centres)
· Implement preventative treatments to reduce the opportunity for graffiti to occur on your property, by restricting available surfaces and creating barriers (refer to goldcoastcity.com.au/preventgraffiti for tips)
