ROAD RAGE ON KOPPS ROAD

Thursday 7th January 2010

A Gold Coast cyclist has been treated in hospital after an ugly road rage attack.

The 42-year-old man was cycling at the corner of Entertainment Drive and Kopps Road in Oxenford at 4pm yesterday when a car braked at an angle to cut him off.

The driver then got out of the car and confronted the cyclist, knocking him off his bike before continuing to punch him as he lay on the ground.

After the incident the suspect returned to his vehicle and drove off.

"It was a serious and vicious assault which is disheartening and concerning," Inspector Darren Soppa said.

The victim was taken to hospital with severe facial lacerations but was later released.

Police from the Coomera district have a suspect and say an arrest is expected.

Inspector Soppa said they did not t know the exact reason behind the road rage.

"One never really knows what does cause road rage. It's obviously the mindset of the driver or passenger that's become upset about something that's occurred," he said.
