GOLD COAST CITY COUNCIL CAT REGISTER

A permit is now required if you own a cat on the Gold Coast. The links below are to the form you need to complete to register your cat and to the schedule of fees - however, at the moment (as of Nov. 2009) it appears that to register a cat with the Council is free of charge and looking at the 'Schedule of Fees'  form, it seems that they may begin to charge a levy only  from August 2010.

The following forms are available in Adobe Portable Document Format (PDF). To view these files, you will need Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. Acrobat can be downloaded from http://www.adobe.com/.

Be a responsible cat owner

Desex your cat at an early age. Desexing will ensure male cats do not spray or fight.

Ensure your cat is kept contained to your property at all times.

Identify your cat with a collar and tag, or a microchip.

Provide clean, fresh water at all times.

Cats that wander can cause nuisance to your neighbours by defecating in their gardens, spraying and fighting. A $75 on the spot fine applies to cats that are not contained to their own properties. Your cat may also be impounded.

Cats that wander are in danger of being injured or killed by a car, dog or another cat.Complaints

If you have a problem with a cat in your area try to resolve the issue with the cat's owner first - if this fails to resolve the problem, you can contact: Gold Coast City Council Animal Management (07) 5581 6664.
