OXENFORD NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH AWARENESS DAY

Our Awareness Day was held on Saturday 18th July from 8.30 to 12.30pm in front of Woolworths at Oxenford. We raised funds by taking gold coin donations in return for photos taken on the Police motorbike and in the Squad car and these images have now all been emailed to the parents of the children.

Sr Sgt Wally Siganto from Coomera Police Station lent his support to our event and was there to chat with residents and members of our committee. We also had the support of Volunteers in Policing Mary and Peter who - among many other things - brought a great new 'toy' - a fingerprinting kit - which was a bigger success with adults than with children!

We were able to meet and chat with many local residents and hand out much literature. Of particular value to our group is that we gathered 67 new email addresses for our database. This means that although 'only' 40 residents attend our quarterly meetings - and although our paper newsletter is delivered 'only' 4 x times x year to 1,850 local homes - we can now quickly & easily be in touch with 110 local residents about crime alerts, crime bulletins and the like and we know that many of these recipients in turn, pass our emails on to local friends and relatives.

To be able to reach more people - more frequently than just 4 times x year - has been one of the main objectives of our group for the past 12 months and we're well on track with that.

With thanks to Sarah Gordon (s.l.gordonphotography@hotmail.com) for taking some of the pictures featured in this post - i.e. the best ones :)
