OLDER PEOPLE AND SOCIAL ISOLATION

What can NHW do to reduce social isolation of older people:

· Raise awareness of social isolation though NHW meetings, NHW newsletter and local media

· Identify socially isolated people within your NHW area

· Hand deliver the NHW newsletter and ask if there is a need for support

· Let your DCPC know if you know of an older person who is fearful of crime

· Don’t support sensationalised media reports about crime

· Promote public transport options available

· Report unsafe footpaths and obstruction to local council

· Promote seniors contributions to the community and discourage negative stereotypes

· Report noisy parties, hoons and other unrest to police

· Have graffiti removed immediately

· Identify support services available and promote
