OXENFORD DEVIATION

The deviation on the Tamborine-Oxenford Road is due for completion in March 2009 - this deviation will bypass the Oxenford town centre and provide a more direct link to the Pacific Motorway (M1) interchange at Oxenford.

The project includes:

new four-lane median-divided road link, with noise barriers for residential properties on the western side of the road

large roundabout at the intersection with Regatta Avenue and Tamborine-Oxenford Road

traffic signals at the northern intersection with the Old Pacific Highway.

The design was amended to reflect community input:

the Regatta Avenue leg of the roundabout was realigned to ease residents' concerns on the close proximity of the new road.

vegetation will be planted beside the footpath along the noise barrier, providing a screen to soften the appearance of the barrier, made of concrete

further plantings to screen houses from the road. Project benefits include:
reduced traffic volumes and congestion

removal of traffic, including heavy vehicles, from the town centre (access to the town centre will not be restricted as all existing roads will remain open)

improved safety with upgraded street lighting at the two intersections and central median lighting along the whole deviation link

improved safety for pedestrians and cyclists by providing an underpass at the new roundabout

improved and safer accessibility to the community facilities for residents on the other side of Tamborine-Oxenford Road

improved flood immunity for Regatta Waters Estate

reduced travel times and better traffic flow.

Construction
During construction, the speed limit between Riversdale Drive and Old Pacific Highway will be reduced to 40 km/h from Monday to Saturday between 7 am and 5 pm.

Entry and exit to the Regatta Waters estate at the intersection of Tamborine-Oxenford Road and Regatta Avenue is restricted to left-in/left-out access only.

Westbound traffic will need to access the estate via the intersection of Tamborine-Oxenford Road and Riversdale Drive until full access at both intersections will be restored.

Approved funding = $14 million

Community engagement

The proposed design was presented to the community for feedback in December 2006. Community feedback has helped shape the design for this project. Main Roads has also been consulting with residents and property owners in relation to the design and installation of the proposed noise barriers and will continue to do so until they are installed.
