According to the Real Estate Institute of Queensland (REIQ), agents need to have a detailed knowledge of a wide range of laws and regulations; extensive property market knowledge; advertising, marketing and promotional expertise; and top-notch negotiation skills.
“Buyers, sellers, renters and landlords are all encouraged to shop around for an agent they feel will provide them with the type of service and the results they want, and whose agency has shown its commitment to best practice by being a member of the REIQ,” REIQ managing director Dan Molloy said.
REIQ accredited agencies undergo annual Continuing Professional Development training which keeps them up-to-date with industry-specific legislation and property-related issues. It is also a condition of membership that agencies maintain professional indemnity insurance cover.
“REIQ accredited agencies have access to detailed information on legislation – such as the new Residential Tenancies and Rooming Accommodation Act 2008 which comes into effect on 1 July this year – through exclusive member publications and websites, as well as forums and conferences held throughout the year,” Mr Molloy said.
REIQ accredited agencies are now displaying their 2009 accredited agency logos.
The REIQ accredited agency 2009 logo is synonymous with professionalism and best practice and serves as a visual safeguard to help consumers make informed and confident choices.”
The REIQ exists to support its more than 2,000 member agencies - which in turn employ some 15,000 property professionals - with information, training, products, and resources that complement their business practices.
