CAR REGISTRATION RENEWAL QUEENSLAND - MYTHBUSTING

“Now that they don’t issue registration labels for private vehicles I won’t know when my registration is due.”

INCORRECT

Queensland Transport will still continue to send out a registration renewal reminder approximately one month prior to your registration expiry date as long as your address is correct. A reminder notice will also be sent out with additional fees if you have not paid your registration by the due date.

There is no grace period for registration once it expires at midnight on the date of expiry. As the driver of a vehicle it is your responsibility to ensure the vehicle you are driving is registered even if it’s someone else’s vehicle. If you have any doubts don’t drive it.

Fines for driving an unregistered vehicle can range up to a maximum of $1,821.

You can check your registration on the Department of Transport & Main Roads Website . Enter your registration number you will be provided with your registration currency and expiry date.  You can also download the QLD Rego Check app from the app store.
