AUGUST 2009 MEETING and AGM

Our August meeting was also an AGM and the Executive Committee remains unchanged with Ron as Treasurer, Ursula as Secretary and myself as Area Coordinator for a 2nd year. Sgt Doc Newman is our Police Liaison Officer and Pauline remains as our newsletter editor. Adelle is in charge of newsletter distribution and Alf and Elsie will also continue as committee members. Unfortunately, due work committements Sgt Andrew Lake announced his need to scale back his involvement with our group and this has saddenned us all.
Jaap Vogel and Vanessa Bull - volunteer snake handlers and re-locators from Mt Tamborine came to talk about snake behaviour, identification and demonstrated first aid. This talk was educational and enthralling and peppered with some great and very funny stories from Vanessa and Jaap's travels! They also surprised us all by being able to bring a carpet snake to the meeting after all!
I received a Certificate of Appreciation of which I am very proud from the Assistant Commissioner for the South Eastern region, P.A. Wilson, for the part I played in passing on information from a local resident that recently lead to the nomination of suspects.
I was also given some more very good news this week - I have won the Area Coordinator of the Year award for the Gold Coast region and will be presented with an award at the state conference in October. This has much to do with the fact that I have implemented much technology into the way our group is run and we have enjoyed many successes because of this. In fact, I am to give a talk on Workshop Day of the state conference about how this was achieved and the many benefits information technology brings to our group.
Our next meeting was scheduled for Tuesday 10th November.
